If you know me well you know that I'm not a big fan of summertime, especially in Kelowna. In fact, you could say that I hate it. I mean bedsides the burning heat in the high 30s, we have to deal with all the idiot tourists who can't find the lake until they're drowning in it. No, I'm the kind of guy who appreciates the more moderate temperatures of spring and fall and who is quite happy sleeping with the window open in the dead of winter.
But that's all changed for me now.

On Friday Rogers announced the contract rates for the iPhone in Canada. Suffice it to say they have made it pretty much unaffordable. Don't take my word for it though, check out their rate plans here:
http://www.rogers.com/web/content/wireless-products/iphone_voice_data_packages
With those rates you're looking at $2160 +iPhone over three years for their most basic plan with no extra features (eg, call display). If you go for the full package, which by the way is not unlimited like they are in the US, you'll end up paying $4860 +iPhone over 36 months. As a friend of mine pointed out, that's a pretty expensive toy.
What can you do about it? Head on over to RuinediPhone.com and sign their petition. While you're there give them a Digg as well.

We are pleased to announce the safe arrival of Piper Kimberly Wilson! She was born today at 1:18PM by c-section and is a healthy 8lb 15oz, 19" 7/8 tall. The OR staff was simply amazing and Charmaine came through with flying colors. Both Charmaine and Piper are doing great as are Shyloh and I.

Charmaine got a RugDoctor yesterday and thoroughly cleaned the couch and chair. After a long day of yard work and housework we were relaxing in the living room, me in my recliner and Charmaine on the freshly cleaned couch. While we were watching some ST:TNG Shyloh spilled his drink on the couch. We knew it was bound to happen so we didn't freak out. In fact we didn't say anything, not to him and not to each other, we just exchanged a look and Charmaine sighed.
Not one minute later Shyloh was back at the couch with cloth in hand wiping up his mess. We were absolutely flabbergasted! He's only 16 months old!

Lee sent me this video this morning. It was much better than the other one he sent...

We dedicated Shyloh this morning. Pastor Terry Dyck did the dedication during the first service and afterwards we went out with friends and family for lunch.

He's taken a few steps, but now he's getting serious about it.

Today is the first day of 2008 but instead of looking ahead I find myself looking back. There were a lot of great things that happened to me last year, but one thing stands out far more than any other event.

A friend of mine has been a pilot since the early 80s and gave me the opportunity to go up with him today. We took off shortly after 3:00 PM and did a few circles around Kelowna. I've flown in small (very small) planes before, but the last time was about 20+ years ago when I was in grade 6.
